  • THE BEATLE BOYS
When first I began this project to create the identity for a live The Beatles stage production, I didn't realise the design challenge I had just taken on. I wasn't simply branding the stage show, I was essentially attempting to rebrand The Beatles.

With a massive career spanning an entire decade, capturing the essence of The Beatles in a single brandmark was no easy task. Since The Beatles music and style constantly evolved as they reinvented themselves every few years, there was no single visual I could use that would successfully capture who The Beatles were in their entirety. To solve this difficult problem, I created an illustrative wordmark that ties together some of the most iconic imagery from the many different phases of The Beatles career.

  • Black Stump Lager
Branding for Black Stump Lager, a conceptual Australian beer intended to be sold and marketed in North America as a boutique Australian import. I wanted the label to have a distinctive Australian outback feel while appearing handcrafted. This project was completed as an assignment for the University of Newcastle.

  • An Inconvenient Truth
A conceptual book cover design for Al Gore's bestseller, An Inconvenient Truth. While I was working at a book store in Newcastle NSW, I would often come across great books with terrible covers. In some free time I thought I would see if I could improve one of the offending titles by redesigning the hardcover edition.

  • Momentum Project
Back in 2009 was one of the founding members of the Momentum Project, a studio/exhibition project in Newcastle, NSW. Through Renew Newcastle we acquired an empty Chinese restaurant and over the course of a few weeks, converted it into a fully functioning studio and gallery.

Setting ourselves a deadline of three weeks until opening night, we went in with only a plan to have no plans until we were handed the keys to the space. Beginning with a collapsable table, some plastic chairs and our laptops we began creating content, literally hanging up work in the gallery as we completed it. Along the way we invited more and more local and emerging designers, illustrators, photographers and architects to collaborate with us and exhibit their work.

Coinciding with Newcastle's Red Lantern Markets, the opening night was a huge success with hundreds of people coming to see what we had been up to. Other major contributors included Asgier Hoem, Lars A. Bratteberg, Thomas Green, Chris Stonestreet, Matthew Lugton, Christopher Brown and Shinya Dalby.

The 'Load more' button on @Instagrarn is unnecessarily annoying. If I'm trying to scroll through a dead end, yes I want you to 'Load more'.

@minburke The one I had made was from Simon's Stamps. They have some nice wooden handled stamps.
