Another unposted illustration I found on my computer from a few years ago. I have no idea why I drew this or what I was doing thinking up bowling puns…

  • I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to design my second studio Christmas card for FutureBrand Australia. Keeping with the theme of the 2010 card, the front features some of the most talked about topics of 2011.

  • Here’s a poster I designed for a 50’s American diner themed party FutureBrand Melbourne hosted late year. The title ‘5 Dollar Shake’, is a reference to the Jack Rabbit Slims scene in Pulp Fiction.

  • My identity design for The Beatle Boys originally began in 2009 as a university project, back when the band was still going by the name The Beatles Experience. We were given an assignment in which we had the option to either do work placement, or to self-manage ourselves on a design project of our choice. Being a recently new fan of The Beatles at the time, I jumped at the opportunity to design a new visual identity system for the very popular live stage show in which my cousin plays Ringo Starr. While the design was well received it was never implemented.

A few months ago my cousin called to tell me that the guys were working on a new The Beatles show and would like me to adapt my original concept to work with the new show title, The Beatle Boys. After looking back at the design two years later I still liked the concept but the execution was a little lackluster. This seemed like a very rare opportunity to be able to polish a design that I never felt was quite there.

I found going back to the well with this project was a really interesting experience as the finished project shows exactly how much(I hope) I have grown as a designer in the last couple years. View the full project here.

  • “Red State is a horror film in which a group of misfits encounter fundamentalism gone to the extreme in Middle America.”

Over the past year I have become a big fan of the illustrated, limited edition movie posters that Mondo, The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin Texas and The Astor Theatre here in Melbourne have been releasing. Since I now own more of these posters than I have hanging space on the wall, I figured it might be time to stop buying and start designing.

Here is my 70’s exploitation film inspired poster for Kevin Smith’s upcoming horror film Red State. I originally posted a somewhat unfinished version of this poster on my old Tumblr blog . After the very positive response I received(thanks to a Twitter shout-out from Kevin Smith himself), I decided to spend some more time on it to reconsider the typography. It also gave me an excuse to finally play around with some of the great fonts from Lost Type Co-Op.

While this design is only conceptual, if you would like to see it get printed as a limited edition run you could always tell @thatkevinsmith directly on Twitter.

  • Designing the office’s 2010 Xmas card was one of my very first projects at FutureBrand Melbourne. Saint Nick’s beard is made up of some of the most talked about topics in the FutureBrand office throughout 2010.
